IRGC Announces Closure of Strait of Hormuz

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has announced that the Strait of Hormuz is closed until further notice, citing foreign interference and illegal routing of shipping routes in the area.

In its statement, the IRGC said: "In our previous statement, we made it clear that foreign interference and illegal routing of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz will force us to take decisive action and disrupt the process of restoring shipping. Due to the incident and the instability resulting from illegal foreign interference, the Strait of Hormuz is closed until further notice and until American interference in the area ceases. Until then, all vessels are prohibited from passing through the Strait."

The Strait carries roughly one-fifth of global oil and refined product flows. Closure or severe disruption affects tanker routes for crude and clean products to Asia, Europe and other import regions. Buyers and charterers should review laycans, insurance, war-risk premiums and alternative routing where applicable.
