02 Grades
Mogas 92 / 92 RON gasoline — trading terminology
Mogas is a common international trading abbreviation for motor gasoline. RON 92 cargoes may therefore be described in market references as Mogas 92, Mogas 92 RON, 92 RON gasoline or Gasoline 92 RON Unleaded.
The grade name defines the research octane rating but does not by itself define the complete contractual gasoline specification.
Sulfur, MON, benzene, aromatics, olefins, volatility, oxygenates, distillation and other quality parameters must therefore be agreed separately for the applicable cargo and destination.
Is RON 92 gasoline “Euro 5”?
RON 92 gasoline with sulfur up to 10 ppm is often marketed in international trade using low-sulfur or “Euro 5” terminology.
However, the Euro emissions framework and a finished gasoline specification are not the same thing, and a 10 ppm sulfur limit alone does not establish compliance with EN 228.
For RON 92 transactions, the applicable destination-market standard and complete contractual quality table are therefore confirmed separately rather than assuming automatic EN 228 compliance.
RON 92 vs RON 95 gasoline
The primary difference between RON 92 and RON 95 gasoline is research octane rating and the resulting anti-knock performance.
RON 95 provides a higher octane rating, while RON 92 is specified in markets and vehicle fleets designed for the lower octane grade.
