Origin & compliance

Non-sanctioned origin MDO is available for selected marine distillate programs. Final origin is transaction-specific. Execution in Fujairah, Rotterdam or Singapore does not by itself prove origin.

Loading or execution location does not by itself determine product origin. Each transaction remains subject to applicable counterparty, destination and sanctions-compliance review.

No standing stock, terminal or producer allocation is published on this page. Quantity, origin, specification and pricing are confirmed for the applicable transaction.

Marine diesel oil MDO bunker supply
01 Product

Marine Diesel Oil Supply

ALGHAF MARINE FZCO evaluates MDO as the DMB-side marine distillate: a bunker that may carry a higher residual component than DMA / MGO. That matters for older auxiliaries and for RFQs written “MDO” rather than “MGO 0.1%”. Non-sanctioned origin is available for selected programmes.

MDO programs may be supplied against the applicable ISO 8217 DMB specification where contractually required. Do not assume 0.10% sulfur or DMA lubricity unless those limits are in the SPA.

What Is Marine Diesel Oil?

MDO sits between clean DMA gas oil and residual fuel oil. ISO 8217 DMB allows a higher viscosity (typically discussed up to 11 mm²/s at 40 °C) and a lower cetane index (min 35 vs 40 for DMA). Operators searching marine diesel oil supplier or MDO bunker fuel are usually asking for that DMB table, not for MGO 0.1%.

ISO 8217:2024 is the current published marine fuel specification. The nickname MDO does not replace the ISO table. DMB vs DMA is confirmed in the SPA.

02 Specification

Marine Diesel Oil Specifications

MDO programs may be supplied against the applicable ISO 8217 DMB specification where contractually required. The figures below are typical DMB discussion limits. Confirm against the contracted edition (currently ISO 8217:2024) and the cargo CoA. They are not a standing Alghaf analysis.

MDO ISO 8217 DMB — typical discussion limits

Parameter Typical / limit (DMB discussion)
StandardISO 8217 DMB where contractually required (edition as contracted; currently 2024)
Density at 15 °Cmax 900.0 kg/m³
Viscosity at 40 °Cmax 11.00 mm²/s
Cetane indexmin 35
Flash pointmin 60.0 °C
Watermax 0.30% vol
Carbon residue (micro 10%)max 0.30% mass
Ashmax 0.010% mass
Pour point (winter / summer)max −6 °C / 0 °C
Hydrogen sulfidemax 2.00 mg/kg
SulfurContractual; not assumed to be 0.10% mass unless the SPA says so

Versus DMA / MGO: DMB discussion viscosity is higher (11 vs 6 mm²/s at 40 °C), cetane index is lower (35 vs 40), and a residual component may be present. Lubricity and 0.10% sulfur are DMA/ECA topics unless copied into the MDO SPA.

MDO vs MGO

MGO is the DMA-side distillate, typically 0.10% sulfur for ECA, port and auxiliary use. MDO is commonly requested as DMB and may include a residual component. They are not substitutes unless the SPA says so. Marine Gas Oil (MGO) sheet.

MDO vs VLSFO

VLSFO is a 0.50% sulfur residual blend for IMO 2020 open-sea use. MDO is a distillate. See VLSFO 0.5%.

03 Origin

Non-Sanctioned Origin MDO

Non-sanctioned origin marine diesel oil is available where buyer, vessel or destination rules require it. Origin is confirmed commercially. Hub names such as MDO Fujairah or marine diesel oil Rotterdam describe possible execution, not origin certificates.

04 Delivery

Marine Diesel Oil FOB & CIF Supply

Marine Diesel Oil FOB Supply

FOB MDO may be evaluated from the loading or barge point of the programme. DMB vs DMA has to be named. Do not assume 0.10% sulfur or DMA lubricity from the nickname MDO.

Marine Diesel Oil CIF Supply

CIF MDO may be evaluated to approved marine destinations. Residual component and viscosity (typically discussed up to 11 mm²/s at 40 °C) follow the contracted DMB table, not the MGO sheet.

Marine Diesel Oil STS / Bunker Supply

STS or bunker delivery may be evaluated where operationally approved — typically for machinery that accepts DMB rather than clean DMA. The ISO grade in the SPA governs quality.

Marine Diesel Oil Supply Hubs

UAE / Fujairah, ARA / Rotterdam, Mediterranean, Singapore / Southeast Asia OPL and Black Sea may be used for transaction-specific execution. MDO supplier Singapore or marine diesel oil UAE are search phrases, not tank claims.

05 Price & enquiry

Marine diesel oil frequently asked questions

What is marine diesel oil (MDO)?

Marine diesel oil is a marine distillate bunker fuel. In ISO 8217 terms it is commonly requested as DMB and may allow a higher residual component than DMA. MDO programs may be supplied against the applicable ISO 8217 DMB specification where contractually required. MDO is not the same as MGO unless the SPA states the same ISO table.

What is the current price of MDO?

MDO bunker price and marine diesel oil price are transaction-specific. They depend on ISO grade, specification, quantity, origin, supply hub, Incoterm, destination and shipment window. Indicative MGO barge history is market context only, not a firm MDO offer.

What are the typical specifications of MDO?

Where DMB is contracted, typical discussion limits include density max 900 kg/m³ at 15 °C, viscosity max 11.00 mm²/s at 40 °C, cetane index min 35, flash point min 60 °C and water max 0.30% vol. Sulfur is not assumed at 0.10% unless written into the SPA. The contracted ISO 8217 edition (currently 2024) and cargo CoA govern.

Is non-sanctioned origin MDO available?

Yes. Non-sanctioned origin marine diesel oil is available for selected bunker and cargo programs, subject to specification, allocation, destination and compliance review.

Do you supply MDO FOB?

Yes. FOB MDO may be evaluated from the loading or barge point. DMB vs DMA has to be named. Do not assume 0.10% sulfur or DMA lubricity from the nickname MDO.

Do you supply MDO CIF?

Yes. CIF MDO may be evaluated to approved marine destinations. Residual component and viscosity (typically discussed up to 11 mm²/s at 40 °C) follow the contracted DMB table, not the MGO sheet.

Which supply hubs are available for MDO?

Execution may be structured through UAE / Fujairah, ARA / Rotterdam, Mediterranean, Singapore / Southeast Asia OPL, Black Sea and other approved locations, subject to allocation. This is not a published stock list.

What is the difference between MDO and MGO?

MGO is typically associated with ISO 8217 DMA. MDO is typically associated with DMB and may allow a higher residual component. The contracted ISO grade, not the market nickname, governs quality. DMA enquiries belong on the Marine Gas Oil sheet.

How can I request a commercial offer for MDO?
