What is RMG 380?
RMG 380 is a residual marine fuel oil with a maximum viscosity of 380 centistokes (cSt) at 50 °C. The designation comes from the international standard ISO 8217 (Petroleum products — Fuels (class F) — Specifications of marine fuels): Residual Marine Grade, with the number indicating the viscosity limit at 50 °C.
It is a heavy fuel oil (HFO) produced from the residue of crude oil refining. At ambient temperature it is viscous and may need heating for pumping and combustion. It is the most widely used bunker grade for large ocean-going vessels with engines designed for residual fuel.
Application in marine / shipping
RMG 380 is used in marine main and auxiliary engines, as well as boilers and generators on board ships. It is the standard bunker fuel for:
- Large container ships, bulk carriers, tankers
- Main propulsion two-stroke and four-stroke diesel engines
- Auxiliary engines and boilers
Ships burning RMG 380 have fuel heating, purification and treatment systems (separators, heaters) to bring the fuel to the right viscosity and remove water and solids before combustion. Marine fuel oil export pricing and availability are driven by refinery output, demand from shipping and regulation (e.g. sulfur limits in emission control areas).
Delivery terms — FOB Novorossiysk & CIF to UAE, India and Turkey
FOB Novorossiysk — delivery at the port of loading (Russia). Buyer nominates vessel and bears cost and risk from the loading port. Common for bunker traders and ship operators with their own logistics.
CIF — we deliver to your destination port (cost, insurance and freight included). One point of contact for marine fuel oil and sea freight. Suitable when you need fixed delivery to your port.
Shipments are loaded at the Port of Novorossiysk (Black Sea). We supply RMG 380 from Russian refineries; volume, laytime and documentation are agreed in the contract. For a detailed explanation of shipping terms, risk allocation and cost implications under FOB and CIF, see our FOB vs CIF logistics guide.

Frequently asked questions
What is RMG 380?
RMG 380 is a residual marine fuel oil with a maximum viscosity of 380 centistokes (cSt) at 50 °C. It is defined in ISO 8217 and used as bunker fuel for large marine main and auxiliary engines. The 'RMG' designation means residual marine grade; 380 refers to the viscosity limit.
What is RMG 380 used for in shipping?
RMG 380 is used as fuel for ocean-going vessels: main propulsion and auxiliary engines, boilers and generators. It is the most common heavy fuel oil grade for large ships. Vessels must have fuel heating and treatment systems suitable for high-viscosity residual fuel.
How do I get marine fuel oil export pricing or a quote?
